Job Title: Design Manager/ Senior Design Manager
Summary: Manages the design of analog/mixed-signal circuits, including design capture, layout, test, evaluation and debugging of prototype ICs and design support for mass production.
Essential Functions:
--Manages IC product developments from inception to completion.
--Participates in product definition, market studies and business case studies for new products and provides input on future products or technologies.
--Works with other departments, including marketing and applications, to promote technical vision of product.
--Manages the development of innovative new designs for patenting or protecting as trade secret.
--Provides hands-on technical leadership and training for design staff.
--Leads design team(s) through the product development cycle.
--Determines design approaches and parameters for design team.
--Ensures design schedules meet corporate requirements.
--Oversees interaction of design team with other disciplines (marketing, applications, test and product engineering and layout).
--Communicates technical information and schedules to senior members of the management team. May also serve as external spokesperson for organization.
--Attends design reviews to provide input and monitor the quality and effectiveness of design reviews.
--Oversees evaluation of design results by laboratory measurements of ICs to assure technical objectives are met.
--Researches design techniques through technical publications and seminars.
--Provides guidance and direct supervision to subordinates (i.e., technicians, designers, support personnel) within the latitude of established company policies.
--Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s).
--Conducts annual performance reviews of subordinates.
--Recruits, selects, develops, and motivates the best engineers to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
--Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Provide guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies. Recommends changes to policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization(s).
--Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Acts as an advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements, may have budget responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
A technology related bachelor's degree or equivalent training and 6 years of related experience. An advanced degree may reduce the minimum experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
--Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals
--Knowledge of complex AC/DC analysis (poles, zeros, compensation)
--Advanced signal analysis knowledge
--Advanced parasitic analysis knowledge (capacitance, resistance, power grid)
--Advanced MOS Device modeling skills (noise, excess thermal noise, DIBL)
--Advanced knowledge of CMOS fabrication processes
--Advanced knowledge of MOS transistors and analog/digital circuit design
--Advanced knowledge of digital design and design flows
--Advanced design skills in the following areas:
--Schematic entry
--RTL coding
--System modeling (Matlab, C)
--Firmware coding
--Low-noise circuits
--High-speed circuits
--Building blocks (e.g., OPAMP, gm-C filters, switch capacitors, ADC, and DAC, state-machines, bus interfaces)
--Phase detectors, ring oscillators, LC-VCOs, PLLs, DSPs, microcontrollers, memories
--Advanced understanding of layout tradeoffs for performance and size
--Advanced system knowledge
--Basic knowledge in specific markets; understanding of markets, technology, and business tradeoffs
--Verification skills (e.g., circuit simulation, logic simulation, static timing analysis, Matlab analysis)
--Design implementation skills (e.g., custom layout, synthesis -》 auto place and route flow)
--Design for testability skills (e.g., controllability and observability through test modes, scan test, ATPG)
--Proficiency in layout verification, DRC, LVS
--Knowledge of scripting/language (perl, shell, tcl, skill)
--Advanced laboratory measurement skills (analog, digital, RF-as req.)
--Knowledge of MS Office documentation, spreadsheet, presentation tools or equivalent tools
--Familiarity with quality systems documentation and procedures
--Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
