Intel是Wimax技术的始作俑者,不过在这个圈里,他已经远远落后了,也是在情理之中的,大公司嘛,官僚体制。公司的构成一般是金字塔结构,对大公司来讲最后一般都沦落到一个工程师干活,Report给一大堆的老板。写不完的Doc,没有多少人干活,不过正经培养出来了不少人才。
小兄弟们都厂长起来了,Intel仍然还是获利者,据说Intel投资了不少Wimax的公司,这些小兄弟们长大了,自然Intel也可以开心地说:这块地是我种的。

Intel开发了一颗用于处理WiFi, WiMax以及DVB-H数字电视功能的软件无线电测试芯片,可以让设备(笔记本电脑什么的)从家中的WiFi网络自动切换到WiMax网络,并可以在移动中访问数字电视,所有的功能集成在一颗芯片中。
下周将要送去流片的芯片采用了9个处理单元,不同的组合以便处理三种协议。处理单元采用片上网络连接,用于数据处理。控制总线采用Open OCP总线协议,并由一颗ARC 605可配置处理器作为系统控制器。在此基础上扩展了一个32x32的快速相乘器以便处理网络访问,以及提供303DMIPS的性能,最高峰值功率只有17mW。

Intel has developed a test chip for software defined radio that can handle WiFi, WiMAX and DVB-H digital TV in one chip.
Thiskind of chip would allow equipment to access the WiFi network in thehome, automatically handover to a WiMAX network when you leave thehouse and also access digital TV on the move, all through one chip.
“There is a shift frompeople wanting their content any time, anywhere to any device, anynetwork, and the problem is there are too many radios,” said JeffHoffman, system architect for the wireless communications lab.
Thechip tapes out next week and uses nine processing elements in differentcombinations to handle the three protocols. The processing elements arelinked by a network on chip for the data and a control bus using theopen OCP bus protocol with an ARC 605 configurable processor as thesystem controller. This has been extended with a 32 x 32 fastmultiplier to handle the network access, and provides 303DMIPS ofperformance at 233MHz with just 17mW of peak power.
The test chip measures 24mm2 overall and consumes 79mW in receivemode at 52Mbit/s and 72mW in transmit, and links to three RF chips forthe different networks.
“This provides all the digital signalprocessing and forward error correction for these three protocols andthe area is still comparable to three fixed function Asics,” saidHoffman. |
