The book is a valuable reference for those who need to know about the logic of human memory and for computer scientists and engineers interested in artificial intelligence and cognitive machines. Students everywhere are encouraged to read this book for their own general education and because someday they may be called upon to apply the futuristic concepts expressed in this book. When time is short, it is possible to take a shortcut through the book as mapped by the solid-line path in Figure P-1. The material skipped ought, of course, to be read at a later date. After the motivating introduction in Chapter 1, a busy reader may wish to go directly to neural memory toward the end of Chapter 3. Chapter 4 is interesting and worth studying, especially the system diagram for human memory and cognition.
